How can one repent of mocking men of religion?

Mocking and ridiculing people are forbidden in Islamic law. It is an even greater offense if it targets scholars and righteous individuals, and listening to jokes that mock them poses a serious danger. Repentance involves regretting the sin, abandoning it, and resolving not to return to it. The phrase "men of religion" should not be used, as in Western thought it signifies worship accompanied by awe, and that a man of religion is unfit for worldly affairs. In Islam, however, every Muslim is a man of religion and the world, and there is no human mediation. Religion is what Allah has legislated to regulate a servant's connection with their Lord and with people, as well as their worldly affairs and conduct. This phrase infiltrated Islamic dictionaries through materialistic and secular ideologies.
