The answer

2.5% (a quarter of a tenth) of money that reaches the threshold () and on which a year has passed (hawl) must be paid as . If the increase in the amount is due to usurious dealings from banks, then one must dispose of it and repent. However, if the increase is a profit from a legitimate (as in Islamic banks), then Zakat is paid on it along with the original amount. And if the increase is new money added by the owner, then Zakat is paid on it after a year has passed, and its Zakat may be paid in advance along with the rest of the money.
