If one intended to pray Dhuhr in conjunction with Asr (Jam' al-Taqdim), then the Maghrib call to prayer was made before commencing the Asr prayer, should Asr be prayed as a timely performance (ada'an) or as a make-up (qada'an)?

If someone intended to combine Dhuhr and Asr prayers by delaying them, and Maghrib prayer overtook them before they performed Asr, then it becomes obligatory for them to perform it as a make-up (qada'), because its time has expired with the sunset. However, if they performed Dhuhr prayer before sunset, it is considered as having been performed on time (ada'). It is not a condition in the intention to specify whether the prayer is being performed on time or as a make-up; merely the intention to pray Asr is sufficient. One must repent to Allah Almighty for delaying the prayer without a valid excuse. It is permissible to combine two prayers while traveling and while at home when there are reasons such as rain or illness, to alleviate hardship.
