Is it permissible for someone who has killed by mistake to pay the blood money himself for the purpose of concealing himself from his family?

There are two obligations in accidental killing: expiation upon the killer and blood money (Diyya) upon his 'Aqila (male relatives on the father's side). Scholars have differed regarding the obligation of the Diyya: is it primarily on the 'Aqila, or on the offender and then borne by the 'Aqila? The preponderant view is that the Diyya is originally obligatory upon the killer, and the 'Aqila bears it out of sympathy and assistance. If the killer has no 'Aqila, the Diyya becomes his responsibility, or it is taken from the public treasury (Bayt al-Mal) if he is indigent. Based on this, it is permissible for the killer to pay the Diyya from his own wealth without the knowledge of his 'Aqila, because it is primarily obligatory upon him.
