The answer

One should appreciate the blessing of repentance and strive in obedience, for abandoning prayer is one of the greatest sins. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, described its abandoner as a disbeliever. Furthermore, abandoning prayer is considered a relapse after steadfastness, which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sought refuge from in his supplication: "and reverting after being."

One must hasten to repent from abandoning prayer, because prayer is of greater significance than other sins. The psychological block concerning prayer is an embellishment from Satan, and it can be resolved by consistently performing ablution and hurrying to pray at the beginning of its time. For the remembrance of Allah, ablution, and prayer untie the knots of Satan, making the Muslim energetic and good-spirited.

Zeal may weaken due to companions; therefore, one should associate with the righteous and attend gatherings of remembrance and knowledge. A fixed schedule should be set for the obligatory prayers and the emphasized supererogatory ones. Missed prayers due to sleep should be made up, but those missed without an excuse should not be made up; instead, this is compensated for by repentance, increasing supererogatory prayers, and seeking forgiveness.
