Is my husband's prevention of me sending money to my parents considered "disobedience to parents" (uquq), knowing that my divorce or leaving my job would harm me and my children, and would not bring any benefit to my parents?

A woman has independent financial rights and full autonomy over her earnings. It is not permissible for the husband to take her ATM card or prevent her from helping her father. The husband's threats of divorce or preventing her from working if she sends money to her father are unacceptable. Providing for a poor parent is an obligation upon their children, according to their means. Islamic law permits a father to take from his child's wealth what he needs, provided it does not harm the child. The advice is to discuss the matter with the husband and persuade him. If he insists on refusing, she bears no sin in providing for her father if she cannot do otherwise, while trying to deliver it to him secretly if possible. We advise the husband to fear Allah and resolve his issue with his wife's father without involving her.
