A righteous mother who encourages her son towards uprightness and acts of worship is a blessing, and the son must strive to obey his mother in what she commands of good. Obedience to the mother is not obligatory in matters that are not religiously incumbent, such as performing many supererogatory acts. What she commands of permissible acts becomes recommended, and the recommendation of such acts is further emphasized. As for matters that are religiously obligatory, they must be performed even if the mother does not command them.
