What is the ruling on shunning a mother who prevents her son from worshipping God beyond just prayer, such as "going out in the path of God"?

The rights of parents are great. Allah has associated their rights with His own and has emphasized the mother's right specifically. Therefore, it is not permissible to abandon one's mother, and obedience to her is obligatory in what is good. However, if she commands an act of disobedience or forbids an obligation, then there is no obedience. If the child's departure is for seeking knowledge that is an individual obligation (fard ayn) or a communal obligation (fard kifayah), then the mother does not have the right to prevent him, and he must be gentle with her and appease her.
