What is the religious ruling on shunning an adulterous and treacherous mother who causes problems?

The mother's right is immense, and showing dutifulness to her is an obligation. It is not permissible to abandon her or sever ties with her, even if she is disobedient or a polytheist, due to the Almighty's saying: {But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness.} Thus, the sacred texts have made kindness to parents absolute, without restricting it to their righteousness. The son must advise his mother and guide her with gentleness and kindness, and supplicate for her. Disobeying parents and severing ties with them are among the gravest sins.
