Is a man sinful and is expiation obligatory upon him if he has intercourse with his pregnant wife during the daytime in Ramadan while she is fasting, given that he was traveling and not fasting?

Scholars have differed regarding the necessity for a traveler who arrives while having broken his fast to abstain from food. The correct view is that it is not obligatory for him to abstain. However, it is more cautious for him to abstain in order to avoid disagreement. He is obligated to make up the day he broke his fast. As for a pregnant wife breaking her fast for intercourse, both spouses must repent to Allah. She is obligated to make up that day. It is more cautious for her to offer expiation by fasting two consecutive months, or feeding sixty poor people if she is unable to do so.
