Is the husband's request for his wife to host his sister, who has special needs, in the marital home, despite her having accommodation with her brother in Egypt, given his harsh demeanor, extreme financial stinginess, and lack of responsibility for her expenses or assistance with household chores, a justified reason for seeking divorce and returning to her family? And is hosting his sister a religious obligation upon her?
Marital life in Islam is based on the fulfillment of rights by both parties, and the head of the family is responsible for those under his care. You are not obligated, according to Islamic law, to accept the hosting of your husband's sister in the dwelling that is rightfully yours, for a wife has the right to an independent residence. We advise you to strive to convince your husband of the rights God has enjoined upon him, and to seek the help of those who have influence with him, and to be patient with your current situation. If you seek the reward for hosting your sick sister, it is better for you, and turn to God with supplication. We do not advise you to leave your husband, for Allah Almighty has guided towards reconciliation between spouses, saying: "And if a woman fears from her husband high-handedness or estrangement, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between themselves. And settlement is best. And souls have been made to incline to avarice. But if you do good and fear Allah, then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted."
