Why will Jesus (peace be upon him) impose the jizya after his descent at the End of Times?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The hadith indicates that Jesus, peace be upon him, will descend as a just ruler, break the cross, kill the swine, abolish the jizya, and wealth will abound. The reason for his not accepting the jizya is that the legitimacy of taking it will cease with his descent, because it will lead to the People of the Book believing in him, or the doubt regarding their adherence to their religion will be removed. So, after his descent, he will accept nothing from them but Islam or the sword. This ruling is not an abrogation of our Sharia, but rather a clarification from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding the abrogation of the jizya at that time. The reason for the change in ruling is the removal of the شبهة (misconception/doubt) concerning what the People of the Book hold of the Torah and the Gospel. With the descent of Jesus, their شبهة will be negated, and they will become like idolaters in terms of not accepting jizya from them.
