The statement implying that a woman's only places are her home and her grave is misleading, and it originates from someone ignorant of Islamic rulings and the status of women within Islam, or from an enemy of the religion. Islam permits women to work and seek education within protective guidelines. Furthermore, a man's guardianship (qawamah) is a responsibility, not a privilege, and it includes financial support and care. Women in Islam have many rights, including: the right to marry with her consent, the right to work within guidelines, the right to learn and teach (as Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, did), and financial rights such as maintenance, taking what is sufficient for her in a reasonable manner from her husband's wealth if he is miserly, the dowry, the right to own and dispose of her wealth, and inheritance. Thus, the status of women in Islam is great and not marginal.
