Does a family that has lost its father, and has adult, employed, and well-off children, as well as other non-adult children, deserve charity?

Firstly: It is permissible to give voluntary charity to the rich, though it is better to give it to the needy. It is commendable for the rich to refrain from seeking it, and it is disliked for them to request it.

Secondly: Voluntary charity is recommended for an orphan, even if they are wealthy, as a form of consolation. However, obligatory Zakat on wealth is not permissible to be given to an orphan unless they are poor or fall under one of the eight categories deserving of Zakat as mentioned in the Holy Quran.
