What is the ruling on what Sheikh Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy does, such as singing and producing religious or political video clips? And is it permissible for a reciter of the Qur'an to do likewise?

Purposeful acting, anashid (religious chants), and permissible entertainment that are free from Sharia prohibitions, such as music, photographing nude women, and false ideas, are not objectionable. They may even be commendable if intended as an alternative to forbidden things. The influence of the Quran is greater in guidance and remembrance. Allah Almighty says: "Say, 'I only warn you by revelation'" (Al-Anbiya: 45).
