How can we reconcile the fatwas that disallow supplicating for impossibilities or supernatural occurrences with the prophetic hadiths and actions of the prophets that indicate their permissibility?

The general rule regarding supplicating for the impossible is that it is forbidden. It is permissible in specific cases, such as the miracles of prophets and the wonders of saints, or when it is absolutely necessary to avert a hardship. Regarding the Hadith of Aisha, "O Allah, I ask You for all good...", the word "min" (مِن) in it can imply partiality. For indeed, no one attains all good. This is contrary to those who believe that it is a superfluous particle, or for explanation, or for beginning. As for "from all evil," the "min" (مِن) is for transitive modification, meaning seeking refuge from all evil.
