Will a person be rewarded for giving gifts to his rich cousins' children, or are orphans more deserving of charity, and is it considered hypocrisy if it is motivated by love for children and the desire to gain their affection?

Kinship ties are obligatory, and they are a cause for blessing in one's lifespan and provision, and they are beloved for the affection they bring. "Exchange gifts, and you will love one another." Gifting orphans carries immense reward and softens hearts. One should combine upholding kinship ties with orphaned relatives and cousins, in a manner appropriate for each. There is no objection to gifting toys to cousins to bring joy to them, while consistently maintaining ties with orphans. If it is difficult to combine both, then gifting orphans takes precedence if they are poor. As for the fear of showing off (riya'), it should not be a reason to abandon good deeds. Rather, one must correct the intention and proceed with the deed, as long as the original aim is to please Allah and seek reward from Him.
