Part of piety () is to distance oneself from the causes of trials (fitan), doubts (shubuhat), and desires (shahawat). A man's conversation with a woman and the exchange of messages through various communication means, without a legitimate need, can lead to serious consequences. Every means to something unlawful is itself unlawful. Therefore, it is not permissible for a man to converse with or message a non- woman electronically without a need.
