Is it permissible for me to fast to make up missed fasts, and is my husband's knowledge of this sufficient, or is his permission and consent necessary, given that he is shunning me, and when I ask his permission to fast, he remains silent and does not respond?

We have previously detailed the ruling on a wife's fasting when her husband is present: she may not observe a voluntary fast except with his permission. However, she may observe an obligatory fast without his permission if time is short, and the preponderant opinion is that it is also permissible if there is ample time. Silence is not attributed as a statement, nor is it considered evidence of consent or lack thereof, unless accompanied by indications. A husband boycotting his wife is not permissible except for a legitimate Shariah reason, and it is not lawful for him to boycott her for a period that causes her harm.
