What is the ruling on wearing clothes shared by disbelievers and Muslims with the intention of imitating them, and is that considered an act of disbelief?

Not every imitation of disbelievers constitutes disbelief. Rather, it becomes disbelief if one imitates them in disbelief itself. The hadith, "Whoever imitates a people is one of them," indicates the prohibition of imitating them. It may also imply that the imitator becomes one of them to the extent of their imitation. So, if the imitation is in outward appearance and dress, then one becomes outwardly like them, which may lead to imitating them inwardly. Therefore, if a Muslim imitates disbelievers in dress without adopting their disbelief, he does not become a disbeliever, but he falls into what is forbidden, which is a serious matter if he persists in it.
