Is obedience to the father obligatory in repairing the television, or is it obligatory to refrain from doing so in compliance with His—the Almighty’s—saying: ﴿And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression﴾?

If the father is not watching forbidden things on TV, then obeying him in repairing it is obligatory. However, if he is watching forbidden things and wants to repair it for that purpose, then obedience to him is not obligatory. In fact, it is not permissible to repair it if it is highly probable that he wants it for watching what is impermissible. It is obligatory to be dutiful to the father, to treat him with kindness, and to obey him in what is good, and to advise him gently and politely, without abuse or harshness in speech.
