Is it permissible to give part of the 'aqiqah as charity and invite relatives for the other part without naming it [i.e., as 'aqiqah]?
"Aqiqah is like Udhiyah (sacrificial offering), from which the family eats, charity is given, and gifts are presented to neighbors and friends. Cooking it is preferable. It is disliked to make it a feast for which people are invited, due to its opposition to the practice of the Salaf (pious predecessors) and fear of showing off. It is better to send its meat to the poor. However, if a feast is held, it is permissible, and some scholars have held that its owner may do with it as he wishes."
