What is the ruling on reading romantic novels that contain phrases which violate modesty?

A Muslim should avoid reading love stories due to their limited benefit and their deviation from Islamic values and principles. Reading them can alter perceptions and distort facts, as love in these stories is often nothing more than a sinful relationship that demolishes social values and entrenches decadent Western ones. With continued reading of such stories, a person becomes susceptible to falling into indecency.
