The question

What should a married man do who has four children, and his wife refuses the relationship and asks for a divorce, claiming mistreatment, even though she might be mentally ill or under a spell and refuses treatment? Should he divorce her, or keep her married to him while he marries another, and both are in different countries?

The answer

A husband must be patient with his wife and not divorce her. He should seek treatment for her if she is mentally ill or enchanted. If he marries another woman in a distant country, he must be just between them in dividing his time, unless one of them waives her right or abstains from his right without a valid excuse, in which case her right is forfeited. The husband must be just between the two wives, either by going to the absent wife on her designated days or by bringing her to live with him. If she refuses to come, her right is forfeited. If the two wives are in distant countries, he can divide his time between them for a period such as a month and a month, depending on his capability and the suitability of the period with the distance between the two countries. If a wife prevents her husband from his right, her right to a share of his time is forfeited. If she returns to obedience, the division of time between them resumes.
