What is the legal ruling regarding what occurs between spouses, and what should a husband do who fears divorcing his wife, yet he desires her, and she does not obey him? Do the angels curse her, and what should she do?

The work of Islamic centers in Western countries is commendable for solving the legal problems of Muslims. Those in charge of these centers should acquire religious knowledge and maintain communication with scholars and preachers.

Regarding the problem of a wife who does not love her husband: she should consider the future and well-being of her children and endure staying with her husband for their sake. The husband, in turn, should strive to change his wife's feelings towards him and understand the reasons for her aversion. If the reason is a character flaw in him, he should change it. If it stems from the wife, then she is disobedient (nashizah) and should be treated as such.

If attempts at self-reconciliation fail, there is no harm in sending two arbitrators, one from the husband's family and one from the wife's family, to reconcile between them, as Allah Almighty says: "And if you fear dissension between the two, send an arbitrator from his people and an arbitrator from her people. If they both desire reconciliation, Allah will cause agreement between them. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing, Acquainted." If she abstains from her husband's bed without a legitimate legal reason, then she is disobedient (nashizah).
