Is a child considered a brother by rada'a (milk kinship) if he consumed food mixed with his mother's milk, as an infant, once or more?

Whoever is breastfed five known feedings while within the first two years of life by a woman becomes her child and a sibling to her children. If milk is mixed with food, then if the milk is dominant, it affects the prohibition. However, if it is overcome, there is a difference of opinion among jurists. If milk turns into cheese or dried yogurt, the majority opinion is that it still causes prohibition.

It is a condition that the milk reaches the child's stomach, whether pure or mixed with a liquid that does not overpower it. Jurists have differed regarding milk that is overpowered, mixed with food, or has changed in form, but the majority opinion affirms that it causes prohibition.

Regarding the question, precaution must be taken to avoid doubt in two matters:

1. Marriage: If it is proven that the questioner ate food mixed with the woman's milk, then she should not marry someone who was suckled by the aforementioned mother's milk, nor any of his siblings. Instead, the rulings of fosterage regarding the prohibition of marriage apply, due to the difficulty of ascertaining the quantity and number of times, and the strong presumption of repetition. 2. Mixing and Hijab (definition): The questioner should not consider this young man or his brothers as her mahrams, allowing her to unveil in front of them, due to the doubt and possibility involved in the matter.

This combination of forbidding marriage and enjoining hijab is not contradictory; rather, it is a precaution for the religion and honor and to dispel suspicion. A single name can be negated and affirmed in two different rulings, as in the hadith (definition) of Sawda bint Zam'ah, may Allah be pleased with her, where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, made him her brother in inheritance but ordered her to observe hijab from him due to his clear resemblance to Utbah.
