It is not permissible to give zakat to wealthy children or to those who are supported by a wealthy person, because they are not among the eight categories of zakat recipients mentioned in the Quran. However, if they are poor and have no wealthy provider, then they are eligible for zakat, and giving it to them may be better so that they can dedicate themselves to seeking knowledge. A condition for giving them zakat is the intention to fulfill the obligation, not the intention of giving a gift.
