The answer

The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is the Khaleel (intimate friend) of Allah, and this is a rank higher than mere love (mahabbah). For Khullah is the perfection of love. Allah has taken Ibrahim and Muhammad as Khaleels. All believers are beloveds of Allah, but Khullah is both specific and general. The hadith "I am the beloved (habeeb) of Allah" is weak and not authentic.
