The hadith indicates the prohibition of a woman seeking divorce without a valid reason. However, if there is a valid excuse, such as abuse from the husband, or her dislike of him due to his physical appearance or character, or a deficiency in his religious commitment, or his failure to provide for her, then it is permissible for her to seek divorce (talaq) or khul'. If seeking divorce without a valid excuse results in harm to the husband or children, she must repent and seek their forgiveness. If direct forgiveness is not possible, then sincere repentance is required. It is preferable for her to return to her husband and children if possible.
