What is the basis for expiation for an oath whose number of repetitions is unknown, and is it permissible to donate this expiation to charitable organizations?

If you swore multiple oaths concerning different matters and broke them, you must offer expiations (kaffarat) equal to the number of oaths you broke. If you do not remember the exact number, you should act according to your best judgment (ghalabat al-dhann) to absolve yourself.

For example, if you said: "By Allah, I will not eat this food," and "By Allah, I will not wear this garment," and "By Allah, I will not go to this place," and then you broke all of these oaths, you must offer three expiations.

However, if you said: "By Allah, I will not eat, nor wear, nor go..." and then broke your oath, you only need to offer one expiation because the oath was not multiple.

It is permissible to give the expiation to trustworthy charitable organizations for them to distribute it to the poor.
