Is the father of the perpetrator of an accident that led to the death of two people obligated to fast for four consecutive months, given that the blood money (diyya) has been paid and he is unable to emancipate a slave? And is it permissible to collect money from philanthropists to emancipate the slave instead of using his own money?

If the father is unable to free a slave, he must fast for two consecutive months for each person killed. If he is unable to fast, then there is nothing upon him, though scholars differ regarding the transition to feeding sixty poor people. It is not a condition that the expiation be from his own money; rather, it is permissible for someone else to assist him with money or food to fulfill the expiation, as in the hadith of the one who had intercourse during Ramadan and the hadith of Aws ibn al-Samit. It is not obligatory to fast the four months consecutively; rather, it is obligatory to fast two consecutive months for each expiation separately.
