Is it permissible for a woman to participate with men in the funeral prayer?

The fundamental principle regarding acts of worship is that they are general for both males and females, unless there is specific evidence to particularize one over the other. The funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) includes both men and women. Thus, women pray over the deceased if no one else is present. Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, ordered that Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas be brought so she could pray over him, and no one objected to her action. Indeed, they (the women) prayed over the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. However, they should not follow funeral processions to the burial site, due to the Prophet's prohibition of that. If they pray with men, their rows should be behind the rows of the men.
