Is the worker rewarded for his work despite receiving wages for it?

Deeds are judged by intentions. If the primary motive for a good deed is worldly gain, then there is no reward for it. However, if the primary motive is to seek reward and the countenance of Allah, then the worldly benefits obtained do not invalidate the reward, although they may diminish it. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There is no raiding party that raids in the way of Allah and seizes spoils of war but that they hasten two-thirds of their reward from the Hereafter, and one-third remains for them. If they do not seize spoils, their reward is complete." As for permissible actions, the doer can be rewarded for them if he purifies his intention and directs it towards Allah Almighty.
