What is the permissible veneration and what is the forbidden veneration?

"Seeking blessings (al-tabarruk) means desiring to obtain goodness by approaching and associating with something, and it is a matter of divine injunction (tawqifi). Legitimate seeking of blessings is that which is mentioned in the Sharia, such as seeking blessings from the Prophet, peace be upon him, Zamzam water, and the Black Stone among entities; Ramadan, Laylat al-Qadr, and the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah among times; Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem among places; and prayer, fasting, and zakat among actions. As for prohibited seeking of blessings, it is that which is not mentioned in the Sharia, such as seeking blessings from scholars and saints among entities, the night of Isra and Mi'raj and the Mawlid among times, graves among places, and innovations (bid'ah) and newly invented matters among actions."
