1- Is it permissible for a Sunni girl to marry a bigoted young man who disbelieves in and insults the Companions, even if he conceals that and affirms it in his heart? 2- If the marriage takes place, what is the legal ruling on the marriage contract, and what should the guardian do? 3- Is the guardian considered sinful, according to Islamic law, if he agrees to his daughter’s marriage to this young man under her threat of elopement, after he had refused the marriage and she insisted?

Slandering the Companions is an act of disbelief that renders its perpetrator an apostate from the religion, thus making it impermissible for him to marry a Muslim woman. If the marriage contract has been concluded, it must be annulled, as Allah Almighty says: (Then if you ascertain that they are believers, do not return them to the disbelievers; they are not lawful [wives] for them, nor are they lawful [husbands] for them). If the woman insists on the marriage, her guardian must annul it by every possible means. If he is unable to do so, the sin falls upon her, not her guardian.
