Is isbal (letting one's garment hang below the ankles) in games forbidden, and are games forbidden if we cannot avoid it?
It is absolutely forbidden for men to let their garments hang below the ankles (isbal). If isbal is inherent to certain games, then it is not permissible to play them. However, if isbal occurs incidentally during play and the person then attends to it, we hope there is no harm in that, based on the hadith of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): "Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection." Abu Bakr said: "O Messenger of Allah, one side of my izar (lower garment) loosens, unless I attend to it." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You are not one of those who do it out of pride."
