Is someone who used to abandon prayer, then return to it and abandon it again, and each time she returned, she would utter the Two Testimonies, and perhaps she only prayed in front of people, considered a hypocrite or as having engaged in showing off, knowing that she has been committed to prayer for a long time now? And is it necessary for her to utter the Two Testimonies again if she does not remember having uttered them when she became committed? And is praying in front of people considered an act of disbelief (kufr) out of hypocrisy?

Abandoning prayer is one of the gravest sins, but it is not considered an act of disbelief that expels one from the fold of Islam, according to the majority of scholars. Therefore, it is not necessary to pronounce the two testimonies of faith (Shahadatain) when repenting from it. Praying in front of people, if it is with the intention of drawing closer to Allah and fearing ill-repute, is valid. However, if it is solely for the sake of people without the intention of drawing closer to Allah, then it is invalid. Since you have repented, praise Allah and preserve your prayers with sincerity, and you are not required to renew your Islam. Regarding making up intentionally missed prayers, there is a difference of opinion among scholars.
