Did the grandfather of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his parents, believe in Allah and in all previous messengers?

The grandfather of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, is from the people of the fatrah (the period between two prophets). Scholars have differed regarding their ruling, dividing into two categories: those whom the call reached and those whom it did not. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, explicitly stated that his parents are in the Fire, because they died upon the idol worship that was prevalent among the Arabs. The call of Ibrahim and other prophets had reached them. As for what has been reported about their revival and belief, it is fabricated and weak. Lineage does not save its owner from the punishment of Allah.
