What is the difference in Islamic creed between lying (الكذب) and deception/charlatanism (الدجل)?
Deception is more general than lying, for most deceivers are liars, but not every liar is a deceiver. Deception is dissimulation, obfuscation, and trickery. Deception may also be applied to lying, an example of which is the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "The Hour will not be established until nearly thirty liars, all of whom claim to be messengers of Allah, are sent forth."
