Is it permissible for one who propagates Islam to lie?
It is not befitting for a caller to Islam (da'i) to lie, because it contradicts truthfulness, which is the foundation of faith. A believer is not a liar, and truthfulness guides to righteousness and Paradise, while lying guides to wickedness and Hellfire. It is not a condition for one who works for Islam to be free from sins, even if he were a transgressor (fasiq) and ignorant, because not enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil would lead to abandoning enjoining and forbidding altogether. However, his actions should not contradict his words; rather, he should enjoin good and himself practice it, and forbid evil and himself refrain from it.
