What is the recompense and expiation for one who has severed the ties of kinship for three years?
Islam has forbidden the cutting off of kin, making it one of the major sins. The Holy Quran has linked the cutting off of kin with corruption in the land, as stated in His Almighty's saying: "So, would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship? Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed, so He made them deaf and blinded their vision." And it was narrated in the Hadith Qudsi: "Are you not pleased that I maintain connection with whoever maintains connection with you, and I cut off whoever cuts you off?"
Therefore, the one who severs ties of kinship must repent to Allah and seek forgiveness, and return to maintaining ties with their kin. If they are the parents, then they must seek their forgiveness and appease them.
