Is it correct to perform an excessive number of daily adhkar, exceeding 13,000, along with reading one or more parts of the Qur'an, when this leads to social isolation and spiritual exhaustion?
The one performing dhikr (remembrance of Allah) should strive to do so as much as is easy for him, without becoming weary, because the most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are continuous, even if small. He should also be keen on the established prophetic adhkar (forms of remembrance).
The prescribed adhkar are of two types: 1. Absolute Dhikr: This means remembering Allah in every state, as Allah Almighty says: (Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides). 2. Restricted Dhikr: This is what is restricted to a specific time, such as the adhkar after prayers, upon entering and exiting the mosque, and the morning and evening adhkar. One should strive to observe and adhere to these. As for what is prescribed absolutely, it is not permissible to commit to a specific time or number, believing it to be a Sunnah, unless one does not hold that belief, in which case there is no harm in increasing it.
