The story of Umm Haram bint Milhan recounts that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, visited her and slept at her home. He then woke up laughing and mentioned that people from his Ummah would embark on sea expeditions as ghazis (warriors) for the sake of Allah. Umm Haram asked to be among them, and he prayed for her. Then he slept again and woke up laughing, mentioning the same thing. She again asked to be among them, and he said, "You are among the first." So Umm Haram was the first to embark on a sea expedition for غزوة (military campaign) during the time of Mu'awiyah. Upon her return from the ghazwah, she fell from her mount and died.

Al-Bukhari narrated that she heard the Prophet say, "The first army from my Ummah to undertake a naval ghazwah has made Paradise obligatory for themselves." She asked, "Am I among them?" He said, "You are among them." Then the Prophet said, "The first army from my Ummah to undertake a ghazwah against the city of Caesar will be forgiven." She asked, "Am I among them?" He said, "No."
