What is the wisdom behind the expression "words" in His — the Almighty's — saying: (And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham was tried by his Lord with words)?

The exegetes have mentioned several meanings for the words with which Allah tested Abraham (peace be upon him), among them: the divine laws, or ten characteristics from the Sunnahs of Islam, or the rituals of Hajj, or the supplications with which Abraham (peace be upon him) prayed to his Lord. Ibn Kathir preferred the opinion that the words encompass all that has been mentioned. As for Ibn Ashour, he explained that the words are the speech that Allah revealed to Abraham, and the words were summarized here to show Abraham's virtue and the manifestation of his resolve and compliance with the obligations. He also stated that the sound feminine plural in "al-kalimāt" (the words) indicates fewness, pointing out that they are the fundamentals of the Hanifiyyah, few in number but great in burden, such as his command to sacrifice his son, circumcision, and the emigration.
