What is incumbent upon one who has intercourse with his wife while both are fasting?

A fasting person who intentionally engages in sexual intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan commits one of the major sins. Whoever does so must offer sincere repentance. In addition to making up the missed fast (qada'), he must also offer the severe expiation (kaffarah): fasting for two consecutive months. If he is unable to do so, then he must feed sixty poor people. Likewise, the woman must repent, make up the fast, and offer the expiation if she was compliant.
