Dar al-Ifta summarized that compelling the suitor to pay the deferred dower upon the dissolution of the engagement is not permissible in Islamic law if the dissolution is initiated by the fiancée. However, if the dissolution is initiated by the suitor, he is then obligated to pay the deferred dower if it is proven that he abused his right to dissolve the engagement, and that the fiancée was harmed by his dissolution of the engagement without a valid reason.
