How can one overcome the difficulty of loving for others what one loves for oneself, especially when emotions conflict with rational understanding, and is feeling sad for the success of others considered a deficiency in faith, and how can one achieve this love mentioned in the Hadith: "None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself"?
The perfection of faith necessitates that a servant loves for his Muslim brother what he loves for himself, and dislikes for him what he dislikes for himself. This requires sincere intention for Allah, asceticism in this world, and competition for the Hereafter. To alleviate feelings of hatred towards those who cause harm, one should reflect upon the Quranic verses that clarify the reality of this transient world and the immense reward of the Hereafter. When a person is certain of this, it becomes easy for him to overlook mistreatment and respond to it with goodness. If he cannot reach this level, then he must not transgress the bounds of Allah in dealing with it, and should confine the matter to a mere heartfelt feeling for which he will not be held accountable. Furthermore, supplicating for her friend removes what is in the heart and stores up reward, and falls within Allah's praise for believers who supplicate for their brethren and remove rancor from their hearts.
