Your mother may break her fast in . If her illness is expected to be cured, she should wait until she recovers and then make up the missed fasts. However, if her illness is chronic and incurable—as determined by trustworthy doctors—she must feed a poor person for each day, based on Allah’s Almighty saying: ﴿And upon those who are able to fast, but with difficulty, a ransom [as substitute] is the feeding of a poor person for every day.﴾ This includes the sick person whose recovery is not expected. The fasting of a sick person who is affected by fasting is considered an extreme imposition in religion, for Allah intends ease for us, not hardship.
