Is a son's refusal to sit with the people of remembrance (Ahl al-Dhikr) and in study circles considered disobedience to his parents if they threaten him with their displeasure?

Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim. Part of it is obligatory for rectifying faith, belief, and acts of worship, and part of it is recommended. It is not permissible to obey parents if they prevent their child from seeking obligatory knowledge, because obedience is only in what is good, and there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. Preventing children from attending knowledge gatherings may push them towards bad company.
