What is the ruling on taking another installment from the bank, such that the bank deducts the remaining amount of the first installment?
An installment loan from a bank has two scenarios:
1. A benevolent loan (without interest): There is no objection to it.
2. An interest-bearing loan: This is impermissible because it is usury (riba), which is one of the major sins. A severe warning against this major sin has been mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, including the Almighty's saying: {O YOU WHO HAVE BELIEVED, FEAR ALLAH AND GIVE UP WHAT REMAINS [DUE TO YOU] OF USURY, IF YOU SHOULD BE BELIEVERS. AND IF YOU DO NOT, THEN BE INFORMED OF A WAR [AGAINST YOU] FROM ALLAH AND HIS MESSENGER} [Al-Baqarah: 278-279], and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) cursed the one who consumes riba, the one who pays it, the one who writes it, and the two who witness it, and he said: 'They are all equal (in sin).'"
